Leg Selection

Identify each leg you wish to participate in. You are not limited to the number of legs. You must provide your own equipment for all legs selected with the exception of the Rafting Leg. You are also responsible for your own transportation to and from the checkpoints.

Legs colored red can accommodate a limited number of participants; you will be contacted for availability. Highest fundraising participants will have first option for participation in these limited legs.

1 Run 10 A run from Fort Wainwright to Ester on streets of Fairbanks and Parks Highway. The terrain is very easy with some hills. Distance is 10 miles.
2 Bike 25 A bicycle ride from Ester to Clear Air Force Base. The terrain is moderate to difficult until Nenana and then becomes flatto Clear Air Force Base for the rest of the route. This section is approximately 75 miles long and divided into three, 25- mile legs.

5 Bike 11 A mountain bike section from Clear Air Force Base to milepost 276 at the Jack Coghill Bridge on a moderately levelsection of wooded trail. Distance is 11 miles.
6 Bike 25 A road bicycle portion on the Parks Highway from milepost 276 at the Coghill Bridge to mile post 178 at Hurricanethrough Healy, Windy Pass, McKinley Village and Cantwell. This leg has four portions of 25 miles each.

10 Hike 16 A tough hike through rugged country crossing through some thick wooded terrain, canyons, and creeks. The hike is 16miles in length and will be somewhat strenuous. The hike begins at Hurricane Gulch and ends at Gold Creek on the Big Susitna. Participants on this leg WILL NOT be able to participate also in Leg 11.
FULL Raft 38 A raft trip on the Big Susitna from Gold creek to Talkeetna Landing. Four rafts will be captained by professional rafters.The length is 38 miles. Participants on this leg WILL NOT be able to participate also in Leg 10.
12 Run 15 A run through Talkeetna from the banks of the Susitna on the paved bike path to milepost 99 of the Parks Highway. Theterrain is fairly level with some minor hills. Length is 15 miles.
13 Bike 28 A road bicycle portion from milepost 99 to Willow Fishhook Road at milepost 71. The terrain is undulating with someminor hills. Length is 28 miles.
14 Bike 16 A mountain bike portion on Willow Fishhook Road to the top of Hatcher Pass. Leg 14 is fairly level with a gradualincline. Leg 15 has a significant incline, rising to 3,886 feet in elevation. Each segment is 16 miles.

16 Bike 10 A run down from the summit of Hatcher Pass to Palmer. Section 16 is a steep decline to the Shell gas station. Section 17is fairly level with some minor hills. Each section is 10 miles.

18 Handcar 7.5 A railroad handcar section from Palmer to the Parks/Glenn Interchange. The terrain is level with a downhill grade.Length is 7.5 miles. Limited number of participants, depending upon number of handcarts.
19 Bike 30 A road bicycle portion alongside the Glenn Highway from the Parks/Glenn Highway Interchange to the bike trailstarting at the Peters Creek exit. Continuing on the bike path following the highway through Eagle River to the Hans Roelle Weigh Station. Undulating topography with some incline. Length is 30 miles.
20 Run 12 A run on the bike path alongside the Glenn Highway from the Hans Roelle Weigh Station adjacent to Fort Richardson.Continuing along Boniface to Alaska State Troopers headquarters on Tudor Road. Distance 12 miles.
21 Hike 18 A hike from AST headquarters to the community of Indian, ending at the Indian ballfields parking lot. The first portionis heavily wooded with some wetlands through Campbell tract. The second portion is a moderate to steep climb along graveled trails that gradually climb with a total elevation gain of 3,500 feet. The last portion is a very steep climb and then a steep descent, both along a well-maintained path. Length is 18 miles.
22 Bike 10 A family bicycle ride on the bike path from Indian Creek to the Alyeska Day Lodge. Terrain is very easy alongsideTurnagain Arm with some hills. Length is 10 miles.
23 Bike 30 A road bike portion from Alyeska Resort Day Lodge in Girdwood to Johnson Pass Trailhead. The road is very level forthe first half and them climbs up to Turnagain Pass and finishes with a downhill to the trail head. The distance is 30 miles with a 900 foot elevation gain.
24 Hike 23 24 A hike across Johnson Pass. The trail winds through mountainous terrain and is moderate to difficult. Terminates atTrail Lakes Hatchery. Length is 23 miles with an elevation gain of 1,000 feet from trailhead.
25 Kayak 13 A kayaking portion from the Trail Lakes hatchery on Upper and Lower Trail Lakes. There will be a minor portagearound Trail River. The leg finishes on Kenai Lake at Primrose. Length is 13 miles.
26 Run 9 A run from Primrose Campground to the Sea Life Center in Seward. The first portion is level then begins a moderateclimb to the top of the pass. From there the highway curves downhill to the city of Seward. Each portion is 9 miles.
